Based on in-depth study of current benchmarks across the VR industry, I produced a heuristic evaluation template, which includes evaluative measures for both hardware (HMDs, controllers, etc.) and software (UX, interaction models, spatial design, etc.). The framework is designed to be used to analyze a VR experience’s UX, program usability, VR-specific ergonomics, presentation & story, and collaborative facets. To this end, each subsection includes at least thirty specific heuristics, each of which include specific metrics that guide evaluation. This framework was shared with all VR-focused teams across the organization to be used as a centralized, consistent template for any future VR studies.
